Master planning multilevel pegging in AX 2012

I’m old school. I use Master planning Inquires > Explosion whenever I’m trying to figure out what’s going on in Master planning – and more often than not, I forget that there is an “Explanation’ tab on the Inquires > Explosion.

This is isn’t available from the Net requirement form – but on the Planned orders forms there is a Multi-level pegging inquiry, available on the View’ action tab:


It’s an improvement on Inquires > Explosion in a couple of ways. Firstly, as you can see above it uses the APICS ‘Downstream’ (towards your customers), and ‘Upstream’ (towards your suppliers) convention on two tabs; and it supports intercompany master planning, so that if you have inherited demand from another company, you can quickly trace back and determine whether that demand has come from a sales order, sales forecast, safety stock, or other demand.

The Upstream display is very similar to the Inquires > Explosion that we all know and love:
